We have all heard about Rihanna’s abuse but, unfortunately, hers is not the only abuse story on the docket this week.

Mariah Carey appeared on Larry King Live and admitted she’s faced her own difficult relationships. “Abuse has several categories,” she tells the host when he asks if she’s ever been in a situation similar to Rihanna’s. “I’ve been abused Emotionally, mentally.

Not unlike the battered pop star, Carey says the hardest part was breaking free from ex-husband Tommy Mottola.

“It’s scary,” she admits. “I just think you get into a situation and you feel locked in…For me, to really get out, it was difficult because there was connection that was not only a marriage, but a business thing where the person was in control of my life.”

When asked for her thoughts on Rihanna’s struggles, she reacts the way many of us have.

“Yikes,” she says calmly, later adding, “I can’t imagine what she went through.”

rihanna12Rihanna recently spoke out about the huge controversy between her and ex-boyfriend Chris Brown. She was reported as saying that dealing with the media attention after being beat up in February by Chris Brown was humiliating. She went on to say that the situation wasn’t in vein because she now hopes to speak for young women who are afraid to talk openly about domestic violence.

The 21-year-old pop star/diva did an interview with Glamour magazine which was posted online Tuesday. The pop singer told Glamour that the police photo of her bruised face that was leaked to reporters added insult to injury.

Rihanna told interviewer that she went to bed and woke up to helicopters circling her house and reporters swarming her street. “I felt like I went to sleep as Rihanna and woke up as Britney Spears.”

Rihanna said she felt broken hearted, disappointed and taken advantage of, when she heard that the two officers under investigation for leaking her photo were women.

This is a good example of the power of the old mighty dollar at work. I’m sure that the officers weren’t looking at the big picture and the repercussions from their actions. At the end of the day they were blinded by a dollar sign.

Rihanna went on to say, that she felt as if people were making it into a fun topic on the Internet, without realizing it was her life.

Rihanna said she didn’t realize how much her decisions affected people she didn’t know, like her many fans. She feels stronger, wiser and more aware now.

“Domestic violence is a big secret,” Rihanna said. “The positive thing that has come out of my situation is that people can learn from that. I want to give as much insight as I can to young women, because I feel like I represent a voice that really isn’t heard. Now I can help speak for those women.”

Chris Brown, 20, pleaded guilty to felony assault in June. He was sentenced to five years’ probation, six months of community labor and a year of domestic violence counseling for the attack, in which he was accused of hitting, choking and biting Rihanna in a rented sports car.

TMZ published the photo of Rihanna’s bruised face less than two weeks after the beating, and the LAPD immediately launched an internal investigation of the leak.
