Back in December Marshall Mathers was ready to call it quits on everything. According to sources close to him he had overdosed on methadone and passed out on his bathroom floor. The media attempted to cover up the reason for his emergency hospitalization and detox, stating that it was just pneumonia. After about a month the old Marshal Mathers was back up to his same old tricks again.
Marshal claims that the overdose scared him. Early last year he checked himself into the hospital again, and actually went through the rehab program. This time he completed the entire 12-step program. I’m talking about the meetings, a sponsor and even a therapist. In a recent interview Marshal says that he has been sober since April 20, 2008.
The average person would try to hide their addiction problems. Not Marshal! He is making it the center of his comeback. His new album entitled, “Relapse” which is his first album since 2004. The album cover is a picture of Marshal’s face made of pills, and in some of his songs he raps about how drugs nearly destroyed him. Never fear for those of you who still want the old Slim Shady back. Marshal’s alter ego comes back better and harder than ever.
This album sticks to the formula that has made Marshal one of the most well paid rap artist in the world. He still mixes the truth with fiction in a way that only he can. This album in no way let’s the fans down. In fact I think it would be fair to say that it is just as good if not better than his previous works.
In a recent interview. Dr. Dre told the press that this album is, hard core, it’s dark comedy and much more.
Eminem’s first single, “Crack a Bottle” with 50 Cent and Dr. Dre instantly went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 when it was released in February, selling 418,000 downloads in its first week.
